COVID-19 Products & Equipment

A number of manufacturers have developed products claiming to be effective against COVID-19, below is a list of the products we are currently aware of, along with supporting evidence cited by the manufacturers. This information is for reference only and we are not in a position to make any guarantees that these products and equipment are indeed effective.

 

Please be aware that while a product may indeed destroy 99.999% of enveloped viruses (similar to, or specifically COVID-19) in a laboratory environment, this does not nescessarily translate to killing 99.999% of virus in a vehicle. Please consider that vehicles have a variety of hard and soft surfaces, including surfaces hidden from view, surfaces that are physically difficult to access, and porous surfaces.

 

We are strongly advising against car care companies claiming that they can remove the virus from a vehicle, or fully sanitise a vehicle, or indeed any other reference to making a vehicle completely safe and free from the virus. However, it is perfectly possible and practical to significantly reduce the chances of a vehicle transferring the virus when the right products and procedures are used.

Manufacturer Claims for MicraSil Ag+ Hand Sanitizer

"MicraSil Ag+ is an ‘active silver’ hand sanitiser that has been produced to kill 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, yeast & moulds. Regular hand sanitisers are classed as ‘contact killers’ which kill germs on contact with the skin. Once the alcohol has evaporated from the skin, its germ-killing capabilities have ended which can lead to the user becoming vulnerable when they unknowingly touch contaminated objects. MicraSil Ag+ works in a completely different manner and once applied it will continue to protect the user. The alcohol content within the gel kills the germs on the skin. Once these germs have been eradicated, a conditioner is absorbed by the skin to ensure it stays soft & hydrated. Colloidal silver ions are the key to MicraSil Ag+ and they are used within the sanitiser due to their germ-killing abilities. The presence of colloidal silver in contact with a virus, fungi, bacterium or any other single celled pathogen will penetrate and destroy its cell wall thus destroying the germs. These silver ions can last for up to 8 hours on the surface of the skin, even after washing. MicraSil Ag+ will protect your hands from infection throughout the day. "Crebisol is a unique multipurpose, multiple environment disinfectant cleaner and has achieved significant independent certification to date which includes a Log 8 kill rate for MRSA in 30 seconds which is effective for up to 72 hours in an active biofilm when dry. However for optimal protection and bioactivity we recommend a 12 hour cleaning interval. Moreover, the product also has been clinically tested to meet EN13704:2002 requirements for C-Diff and to EN14476:2007 requirements for Norovirus (Vomiting Bug)."

Manufacturer Claims for I2 Tri-Clean:

"I2 Tri-Clean contains a specific raw material that actively combats and kills coronavirus (specifically MERS-CoV and BCoV) when tested to the EN 14476 standard. There is synergistic behaviour between all the ingredients in the formulation that make I2 Tri-Clean a very good disinfectant.

"Products such as L1 Leather Guard and C6 Matt Dash contain BioCote® technology. Laboratory testing has shown BioCote® to provide some resilience to a member of the coronavirus family – specifically feline coronavirus, strain Munich. As a result of the testing BioCote® technology provided a reduction of 90% in 2 hours against this particular strain. Whilst the BioCote® results cannot be compared to the SARS-CoV-2 virus strain, the tests are a positive indicator of the efficacy of BioCote® technology against the coronavirus family. It is important to note that the human strain (SARS-CoV-2) has currently been classed as a level 3 Biohazard and as such it has not yet been possible to carry out specific tests again this particular strain."

"Based around the quaternary ammonium compoundsdidecyldimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC) and benzalkonium chloride (BAC) with an adjuvant effect to enhance its antimicrobial efficacy."

  • Doesn’t use poisons
  • Completely transparent and safe for all vehicle surfaces
  • Once cured it will not washoff – tested for up to 100 washes
  • Stays active and protects for extended periods of time (reapply in line with vehicle service intervals)
  • Stayzsafe technology has been tested in independent laboratories globally. It has achieved a “LOG 6” (99.999%) kill rate.
  • Efficacy will not diminish over time. Most tests confirm <1% reduction in efficacy.

Manufacturer Claims for Delta San:

"As well as bacterial action, the detergent in Delta San will break down viruses and lift them from surfaces (each virus particle consists of a small set of genes, enclosed by a sphere of fatty lipid molecules and, because lipid shells are easily torn apart by detergent, Delta San is a very effective response). Independent Laboratory Tested The European Suspension Test (EST) evaluates the effectiveness for the antimicrobial activity of disinfectants in food hygiene. Contact time 5 minutes to give a 5 log reduction (microbicidal effect >5) in bacterial count. This represents a 99.999% kill."

"70% ethanol formula, kills more than 99.9% of viruses, bacteria and germs on the hands, to prevent the spread of contaminating organisms. 70% ethanol is effective at killing both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. including MRSA and E coli.
